Felt Alive; a needle felting story
It all started with a brand new needle felter that fell head over heels in love with this curious craft.

My name is Kay Petal. This story began in January, 2007. It was a dark and stormy night 🙂 in the middle of a cold Alaskan winter and I was longing for a new creative outlet. The instant my first felting needle poked into the wool I felt a burning desire to conquer this craft and share it with the world.
“You’re killing the wool.”
I brought along some of my creations to show Birgitte. She took one look and told me that I was killing the wool. She advised using a firmer pad instead of a couch cushion and told me I only needed three types of felting needles — fine, medium and coarse (now my yellow, red and black color-coded needles.)
Then the needles
By the fall of 2008 Einstein took Best in Show at the Alaska State Fair. We color-coded the felting needles to accompany the videos, and many of my earliest online students are still with Felt Alive as customers to this day. Have fun and happy felting!
