One needle, two, or four

Single Point = one felting needle with a permanently affixed handle. Double Point = two needles permanently affixed in a color-coded handle — two needles working together and felting in double time! Quad = four needles permanently affixed in a color-coded handle. The tips of the Quad Point Felting Needles are aligned in a tapered pattern, helping all those barbed blades glide in a bit easier.

A practical rule

Kay starts nearly every project with her double yellow. As the wool felts and the double needles become difficult to pierce, she switches to a single yellow that glides in with ease. The quad is best for special applications like surface felting of large areas or for flat needle felting. Multiple needles can be difficult to pierce through the wool as it felts, so keep some double and single points on hand.

What not to do

And clunky handles?? Who needs the extra bulk? Ditch those standard felting needles — those are designed for industrial use. You are not a machine so you need felting needles with a colorful, comfortable grip that won’t slip out of your fingertips as you stab away the hours.
